Management software from another era

Steel Future works with Commesse, management software developed in-house in the early 2000s, in PHP 5. It follows all of the company's work: jobs and drawings, quotes, orders from customers, for raw material and for outsourced processing, schedules, machines, staff and clock-ins. The code sat only on a company server and wasn't under version control.

They called me in to support the software.

Fixing without rewriting

  • Code under version control on GitHub.
  • Accented letters and the euro sign displaying properly again.
  • Readable warning messages, with no codes in place of letters.
  • Printouts that open, print and close by themselves, without blocking the page.
  • Compatibility with Internet Explorer.
  • Fixes in the job forms.
  • Updated logos and certifications in the printouts.
  • Automatic deploys on every push to GitHub.

More reliable

  • More reliable software, without rewriting it.
  • Quotes, orders and confirmations printed without a hitch.
  • Every change tracked and published by itself.
